Art Inspiration
Sometimes a doodle is just a doodle, but every once in a while, your doodle can be the seed of inspiration.
The summer before my junior year at Appalachian State, my mom and I painted and sketched artwork on afternoon to fill my new apartment. I just happened to do a doodle with black ink on a white paper. I mounted the sketch to a black mat and hung it on my wall and that was that.
In Boone, there was an amazing tattoo artist that I wanted use before I graduated but had no idea what I wanted to live with the rest of my life. I looked at this doodle for months before I finally had my inspiration. It was a cold morning, like all mornings in Boone, when I knew my doodle would be the perfect tattoo. I did not use the whole doodle, just the lower flower on my shoulder. The tattoo artist added a little whiplash curve to top of the stem that perfectly finished it off.
I have to admit, that you tend to forget that you have a tattoo when it is on your back. I had this done almost ten years ago and still to this day it catches me by surprise.
Ok, back to the creative part… I don’t think about it very often, but for my birthday shortly after my tattoo I received a present from my aunt. She had seen the doodle and the tattoo and was inspired to turn it into a copper etching {seen above} of the original doodle. To this day, the piece hangs in my office to remind me the impact a little doodle can have. You never know who you will inspire with such a small action.
